Social Media Specialist

Bring our brands to life through social media by creating culturally relevant, trend-aware content that resonates with U.S. audiences and builds engaged communities.

Role Overview

As a Social Media Specialist at oCommerce, you'll manage the day-to-day social presence of multiple U.S.-based consumer brands from our Mumbai office. This role goes far beyond scheduling posts—you're responsible for understanding each brand's voice, audience, trends, and cultural nuances, then translating that understanding into content that feels authentic to American consumers. Each of our brands has a completely different personality. One may be playful and trend-driven, another elevated and aspirational, while another speaks to business owners or gardening enthusiasts. Your ability to switch seamlessly between these voices is essential. You'll work closely with our Creative Team, Integrated Marketing Lead, Ecommerce Managers, and Performance Marketing team to execute product launches, seasonal campaigns, influencer collaborations, and community engagement. Success means creating content that doesn't feel like it was produced halfway around the world—it feels native to the audience we're speaking to. Our brands primarily serve customers in the United States. While this position is based in Mumbai, success requires a deep understanding of American culture, language, shopping habits, internet trends, humor, and seasonal events. You'll be expected to write content that feels natural to a U.S. audience—not translated, overly formal, or generic. Every brand has its own voice, and part of this role is becoming fluent in each one. If you already consume U.S. social media daily, understand why different content resonates with different audiences, and enjoy staying ahead of cultural trends, you'll thrive in this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day social media presence across multiple U.S.-based consumer brands.
  • Plan, schedule, and publish content across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and emerging platforms.
  • Write engaging, platform-native captions that reflect each brand's unique voice.
  • Stay ahead of U.S. social media trends, memes, seasonal moments, and cultural conversations.
  • Collaborate with designers and video editors to produce engaging social-first content.
  • Develop monthly content calendars aligned with product launches and marketing campaigns.
  • Engage with customers through comments, messages, and community management.
  • Monitor performance metrics and identify opportunities to improve reach, engagement, and follower growth.
  • Research competitors and emerging social trends to keep our brands ahead of the market.
  • Coordinate influencer content, user-generated content, and community initiatives.
  • Maintain consistent brand voice across every customer interaction.
  • Use AI tools responsibly to improve ideation and workflow efficiency while maintaining authentic brand communication.

Qualifications & Skills

  • 5+ years of professional social media management experience.
  • Experience managing social media for U.S. or other English-speaking consumer brands is strongly preferred.
  • Exceptional written English with native-level grammar, spelling, and tone.
  • Deep understanding of Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, and emerging social platforms.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. internet culture, humor, slang, seasonal events, and consumer behavior.
  • Experience using scheduling and analytics platforms such as Sprout Social, or Planoly.
  • Ability to interpret engagement metrics and optimize content performance.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple brands simultaneously.
  • Experience working alongside creative teams to produce social-first content.
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field is preferred.

What we're looking for

  • Someone who is genuinely immersed in American culture, not just social media.
  • A person who instinctively knows the difference between how a 25-year-old in Los Angeles, a mom in Texas, and a business owner in New York communicate online.
  • Exceptional copywriting skills with the ability to adapt to completely different brand personalities.
  • Naturally curious about trends—but understands the difference between chasing trends and building a brand.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple content calendars at once.
  • Strong creative instincts balanced with data-driven decision making.
  • Ownership mentality—you think like a brand builder, not a content scheduler.
  • Comfortable giving and receiving creative feedback.
  • Passionate about storytelling, community building, and creating content people actually want to engage with.
  • Excited to collaborate in an in-person, high-performance creative environment.

What we offer

  • Opportunity to manage social media for a portfolio of growing international consumer brands.
  • Work alongside designers, marketers, photographers, developers, and ecommerce specialists in one collaborative office.
  • Direct involvement in major product launches, influencer partnerships, and brand campaigns.
  • Access to modern creative tools, AI-powered workflows, and professional development opportunities.
  • Competitive salary with performance-based incentives.
  • Clear opportunities for career growth into senior social media and brand marketing leadership.
  • Modern office located in Mumbai.
  • Paid time off and company-recognized holidays.
  • A collaborative culture built around ownership, creativity, and continuous improvement.
